Funwe Farm comprises about 750 hectares of mixed woodland and agricultural land, in Traditional Authority Nankumba, Mangochi District, 20 km SW of Monkey Bay, near the South end of Lake Malawi. This is an under-developed area where the local people, especially women, have limited opportunities.

Funwe Farm's current owners bought it in 2001 in a dilapidated condition as a social investment. Their aim is to help the social and economic development of the local people through boosting employment, diversifying crops, improving food security and protecting the environment. Financially the owners aim to recover the capital that they have invested but not to make a profit for themselves. They have no political or religious affiliation.
