Funwe Farmers Group

Funwe Farmers Group (FFG) is the main mechanism supported by FFL for the economic development of the people who live around Funwe Farm. It is a community-based organisation comprising six clubs each with about 20 members, most of whom live in the villages of Kalowa, Mputa, Ntola and Mbapi that border Funwe Farm. Each club elects its own committee, and all the members together elect an overall committee for FFG. The current Chair of the Main Committee is Mr Pound Shonga.

FFG's members are self-employed, not employed by FFL. FFG carries out most of the agricultural work at Funwe, under a Memorandum of Understanding with FFL. The major features are that FFL provides the use of the land, training and technical supervision, introduction to finance institutions, and marketing, while FFG grows various agricultural products. The products remain the property of FFG until sold, at which point FFG and FFL share the net profit in the proportions 65%:35%.
